I have no doubt that 1923 will drag it out as long as possible, putting them in danger's path again and again. We're going to be put through the wringer again and again, but if each near-calamitous circumstance rewards us with fiery and passionate scenes of love and survival, it will be an outstanding journey.

Paramount Plus series 1923 picks up after the events of 1883, delving into the early 20th century when historic drought, pandemics, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plagued the mountain west.

After a brief mid-season hiatus, 1923 is back with further family drama, explosive storylines and never-ending tension. As if the returning second part of the season wasn't reason to celebrate enough, fans will also be thrilled to hear that 1923 has been renewed for a second season, with Ford and Mirren set to return to their lead roles.

Alternatively, if you want to re-watch (or perhaps don't have a Paramount Plus subscription), 1923 has now started airing on Channel 5 with the first episode having aired on Thursday 9th February at 10pm and the rest of the season being released weekly.

Of course, we know them to be the successful family of ranchers in the most recent seasons of the hit drama, so this prequel series only gives us an insight into the family members that came before them. Spoilers ahead...

With Teonna's (Aminah Nieves) escape plan fully in motion and marshals on the hunt for her, in the sixth episode, we see one of them push her grandmother Issaxche in their search, but she hits her head and dies.

The series comes from Taylor Sheridan and stars acting veterans Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. The producers plan to air two seasons of eight episodes each. The cast also features Brandon Sklenar, Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Julia Schlaepfer, and Jerome Flynn.

On the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, 1923 holds a 91% approval rating with an average rating of 7.0/10, based on 32 reviews by critics. The website's consensus reads, "Distinguished by the ineffable star power of Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, 1923 is another solid if unrelentingly grim addition to Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone universe."[39] On Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, the series has received a score of 67 out of 100 based on 15 critic reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[40]

Here's a look back at the midseason trailer for Paramount+'s "Yellowstone" prequel series, 1923 (followed by a featurette focusing on what the cast & creative team had to say about how the prequel series plays into the overarching "Yellowstone" storyline):

1923 has become the most recent prequel series to join the Yellowstone universe. The thrilling spin-off follows the Dutton family as they operate the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch in the early 20th century.

I love the entire Dutton family saga. I watched 1883 twice and am looking forward to the second season of 1923. Ann Mirrem and Harrison Ford are great together. Kevin Costner will be missed. Do you really want to leave? Please reconsider. All of the cast members are very talented and believable in their roles.Beautiful scenery

At the beginning of the episode, Emma Dutton (Marley Shelton) attends to the grave of her husband, John (James Badge Dale), and we learn that the date of the fateful ambush by Banner Creighton (Jerome Flynn) and his men was August 28, 1923.

Later in the episode, when Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) and Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) try to book passage from Kenya to the United Kingdom (as there are no direct voyages from Africa to the United States), they are told that the ship won't leave for another three weeks and the sail date is November 11.

That would make it late October, which means that Alexandra was wrong when she told Spencer that Cara Dutton's (Helen Mirren) letter informing him of his brother's death was sent three months before they opened it. With the concrete dates given in this episode, it turns out no more than two months have passed.

However, this ship couldn't have been there as, crucially, in 1923, it was undergoing a major overhaul in Southampton, England. It did not return to Atlantic service until the following year, meaning Spencer couldn't have sent a wire from it to tell the Duttons of his imminent departure.

"In memory of Derek Chavez," it reads. According to IMDb, Chavez was a production supervisor who worked across all eight episodes of the first season of "1923," as well as the first prequel in the "Yellowstone" universe, "1883." He died in January at the age of 32.

Taylor Sheridan's second prequel series to Yellowstone has now aired four episodes of an eight-part season. With four more episodes to go, fans will have to be patient to find out what will happen to Jacob, Spencer, Cara and the Dutton family friends.

New episodes of 1923 drop on Paramount+ at 03:01 ET and 00:01 PT. Paramount has yet to announce if this is the last break of the season, and it's not known if Episodes 5 through 8 will air without interruption.

The episodes aired so far have been: "1923," "Nature's Empty Throne," "The War Has Come Home" and "War and the Turquoise Tide." Click each of the links to read Newsweek's episode recaps. Warning: SPOILERS lie ahead for 1923 season 1, episode 5.1923 season 1 has returned from its mid-season hiatus, and show star Julia Schlaepfer has teased Alexandra's upcoming life-changing choices. 1923 is the second spinoff story in the Yellowstone universe after 1883, following the Dutton family as they take on new sets of challenges in the early 20th century. The show is expected to continue chronicling the family's status throughout the Western expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression. Julia Schlaepfer plays Alexandra in the series, who falls for Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar), the son of Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Hellen Mirren). 041b061a72
